Explore our recent project, where we undertook the challenging task of transporting out-of-gauge (OOG) breakbulk cargo from the port of Alexandria, Egypt, to Sfax, Tunisia.
The cargo, comprising filter tanks with dimensions of 24.57 meters in length, 4.45 meters in width, and 4.68 meters in height, presented unique logistical challenges due to its size and weight. With a total volume of 4165 cubic meters and weighing in at 575 metric tons, methodical planning and execution were essential to ensure the successful delivery of the cargo to its destination.
Our services began with port operations, where we managed all aspects of port compliance for oversized shipments. This included proactive preparation and handling of all required documentation, such as cargo declarations, port clearance permits tailored for oversized cargo, and accurate bills of lading. These measures were crucial to facilitate a smooth handover of the cargo to our company-owned vessel, the SCL Mercury, which would transport the cargo to its final destination in Sfax, Tunisia.
Upon arrival at the port, the cargo was securely offloaded and stored in a designated area optimised for its dimensions and weight. The highlight of our operations, however, was the intercarting process, where we executed a complex tandem lift operation using SCL Mercury’s impressive lifting capacity. Two synchronised heavy-duty cranes, guided by advanced positioning algorithms and expert crane operators, ensured the seamless transfer of the cargo. Sophisticated load distribution calculations and precise lifting trajectories were utilised to guarantee the safety and efficiency of the operation.
Stevedoring operations followed, where methodical techniques were employed to ensure optimal space utilisation and cargo stability aboard SCL Mercury. Precise weight distribution calculations allowed us to strategically position each tank within the vessel’s hold, maximising available space while maintaining the perfect centre of gravity. Custom-designed cradles and the tactical deployment of high-density dunnage further enhanced cargo stability, mitigating the risk of movement during transit.
In conclusion, our project exemplifies our commitment to delivering complex, oversized project cargo with precision and efficiency. By leveraging our expertise in port operations, intercarting, and stevedoring, we successfully navigated the challenges posed by transporting oversized filter tanks from Alexandria, Egypt, to Sfax, Tunisia.
